Congratulations to Kathy Grupe, West Birdville Elementary librarian, for winning the Texas Library Association’s Siddie Joe Johnson Award. This honor is presented annually to recognize an outstanding Texas librarian. Nominees are evaluated on the basis of outstanding or innovative programs, a sustained high level of performance, leadership ability, involvement in professional organizations, community involvement, and cooperation with parents and other libraries, especially outside their own system. In 2015, Kathy Grupe was selected Birdville ISD’s Elementary Teacher of the Year.

SIOP training being offered this summer

BISD is offering two, three-day SIOP teacher training sessions this summer. SIOP is the only research-based model of sheltered instruction, and is a Tier 1 Priority in our District. In this engaging, interactive training, teachers (grades 2–12) will learn and practice more than 30 instructional techniques that they can take back to their classrooms in August to help their ELLs—and all their students—be successful.

Sessions

June 13–15, Sue Hurt (BISD ESL Coach)

August 1–2, Regina Walker (BISD ESL Coach)
